Our most amazing and popular creation...: "The
Oscar™" - a steel tongue-drum!
The only drum of it's kind in the world...**
(see
Gallery for more photos)
This hand made creation from Tribal Thunder is easily playable with your
fingers/hands or the included mallets for greater volume. Rank beginners
will have hours of fun instantly with no noisy learning curve!
This instrument is less than 12" across and 9" high (weight about 7 pounds),
but INCREDIBLY responsive. It is a resonator (no holes or ports, the sounds
flows from within), tuned to 6 notes that sound as clear as a Tibetan Bell
or Tingsha - and resonating just as long! With only 6 notes, you can
play many multi-tonal sounds by tapping with different pressure, muting, or
play full chords by striking more than one tongue! As suitably perfect for
meditation as it is for a drum jam...or anywhere you feel like some music -
easily played in your lap, on a tabletop or under your arm.
Since these have a relatively small footprint, you could surround yourself
in a ring of differently tuned Oscar™ drums, or play with a group -
and create your own orchestral soundscape!
COMING SOON...THE OSCAR™
MINI
** These are different than a Steel Pan or Hang Drum (some of which have
sold for
as much as $4000 on eBay),
but sound equally beautiful with a musical personality of their own.

Hi
I received my Oscar drum two days ago. I have fallen in love with
it! Have been playing it now for two days straight, can't stop.
I am so happy that I found your website and the oscar. Me and my
drummer had a two hour jam with the Oscar and tabla drums, it
sounded absolutely wonderful, drifted away. I will try to mount some
contact microphones to it and add some delay, chorus and maybe even
try it through a Leslie Cabinet.
Anyway, thanks a lot for this wonderful steel drum, absolutely
groovy!
Best regards, Christian

I *love* my new
Oscar drum, thank you very much! Good thing Ricky offered to drive
us home, since I played most of the way! A great big thank you to
everyone at Tribal Thunder - Joan, Marci, Oscar and all - for making
us feel so welcome and giving us a tour plus a great jam! I know
this is the beginning of musical adventures together Organic Groove
meets Tribal Thunder!

I received my Oscar drum today
and...It's absolutely amazing! I love it, I love it, I LOVE IT! I've
been playing for one and a half hours straight now, and I'm still
not done. The sound's incredible, and after playing for half an hour
I started to figure out how to get certain types of sounds and what
the right technique was for playing with my hands. The mallets give
an absolutely overwhelming sound. You should really update your
audio recordings on the website, they don't even come close to the
real thing! Thanks for your personal notes on the letter. When I've
practiced some more I'll be sure to post a movie on YouTube. You'll
here from me in a few months when I've got enough money to buy
another one. Just one isn't going to keep me satisfied for all too
long! :)
Thanks again. Keep doing what you do!
Greets,
Steven (Netherlands)
